This is an expansion of the want I have, to see Miss Parker and Jarod get together. I was disappointed to find that all of the fanfics where this happened were nfics or R rated so I wrote one of my own. Comments, criticism, etc. all welcome!! Chances By Nirvana Kliese Jarod's heart pounded as he turned another corner into a dimly lit alley -- he could hear the sound of heels running behind him. He cursed taking that last turn, she might never have seen him. Still he was lucky, she wasn't expecting to see him any more than he was to see her, and she was alone and unarmed. She still chased him, though, and he still ran. Old habits die hard. He came to the entry of a large furniture warehouse. It was dimly lit and the door wasn't padlocked. He looked around the dead end street and back at the door. He gave it a shove and it swung open to expose rows of covered furniture. He had gotten a few meters inside when she ran through the door, slamming it behind her. Her red hair was tussled from the chase and her clothes disheveled. She didn't wear her normal hardened clothing but instead a long dress. Her hair was curled and her makeup was soft, her face though bore a look of cold satisfaction. "I caught you," she panted. Jarod pushed past her to the door and tried to open it. It was locked firmly. "Goody, what are you going to do to me?" he smiled light- heartedly. Her face fell. "No!!!" She banged her fists against the steel of the door. "Damn!" she shouted. Jarod sat back on one of the plastic covered couches. "Care for a seat?" he asked. She glared at him coldly. Her eyes were full of emotion, as if she where holding back tears. Finally she sat down on the opposite side of the couch. She squinted to see by the glow of the streetlights leaking in through the tiny glass window. "Maybe someone will find us." She rubbed her brow. "At 11:30 on a Saturday night? I hate to say it but a factory on Mark St. isn't exactly a huge social joint," he smiled. She shook her head in frustration. "The one time I find the person I've been trying to find for the last year, I not only can't take him in and finally get out of the danger zone with Mr. Raines, but I'm also forced to spend the night in an old warehouse with him. Goody gumdrops." "What no cigarettes?" Jarod asked sarcastically. She rolled her eyes. "I was going to get some when I spotted you." "Having a night out?" Jarod asked, amused. "Just trying to salvage the small broken fractures remaining of my social life," she snarled. "Yeah I was having a nice night too," he smiled, regardless of her tone. She turned to face him, her eyes were confused. "Well, I guess I can't take you in, can I?" she sighed. "Nope." Jarod laughed. "Neither of us can go anywhere." She gave a bitter laugh. "Well there's irony for you!" Her stomach rumbled. "Dammit, I'm hungry," she mumbled. Jarod removed a Pez dispenser from his pocket. "Pez?" he asked holding it out to her. She laughed light-heartedly. "I haven't had one of these since I was a kid!" She popped two in her mouth and smiled. Jarod looked down. "I never knew what a Pez was when I was a kid." He said sadly. Miss Parker spotted smiling. "I'm sorry," she said sincerely. Jarod turned to face her looking shocked. "You, my relentless pursuer, are apologizing? Now there's something I never expected to hear." "It's a job, Jarod. I don't have a choice," she protested. "Everyone has a choice!" he almost shouted. "Yeah? Like what?! Do good like my mother and wind up dead 15 minutes later!?" she shouted. He stopped. "You found out." She nodded. Hot tears began to stream down her cheeks. She remembered crying before, not since her mother died. Jarod pulled her to him and she didn't protest. She lay her head down on his shoulder and cried, just cried, enjoying a feeling that she hadn't felt in a long time, just being held. His strong arms embraced her firmly. She enjoyed his touch. "I don't have a choice," she whispered. "I'm as scared as you are." He brushed her hair off her face and closed his eyes, feeling what it was like to be her. Her mind was a jumble of emotions, much like his, full of thoughts, doubts, regrets and fears. She sat up enough for their eyes to meet. "Neither of us are free," she said softly "Those doors will open tomorrow, but we won't be free till the day that we die." He nodded, understanding. All of a sudden he felt a wave of emotion. He searched her eyes -- she felt it too. "You were my first kiss," they said in unison. They laughed nervously but their eyes met again. Jarod placed his hand on hers, her skin tingled at his touch and her pulse raced. They moved closer until their lips where almost touching. He could feel her breath on his lips. His hand moved up her arm and neck, stroking gently until it reached her head. He ran his fingers though her soft hair. She wrapped her arms around his neck and they kissed. Innocently, at first, like childhood sweethearts. They pulled away slowly to take a breath. She looked into his eyes, full of kindness, wonder, and love. She knew they mirrored her own. They moved in until their lips met again. this time the kiss was passionate and deep. She let out a soft moan and they fell back into the couch gently. The love they had hidden from everyone, even themselves, was finally free. * * * * The light of morning shone brightly thought the small window. Jarod looked down at her, curled up in his arms. He smiled at her and as if sensing it she opened her eyes and smiled back. "Morning," she whispered sleepily. Her voice didn't possess even a touch of the coldness that filled it so many times before. The door swung open and a middle-aged factory worker wandered in. He stopped the couple and frowned. "Do I even want to know what you two are doing in here?" His hard face cracked into a smile. Jarod quickly helped Ms Parker to her feet. "Actually, we were just leaving," she answered for him. They scampered out the door laughing. Hand in hand. They walked in silence for awhile. Finally she turned to him. "I guess this is going to change things," she said. He nodded. "Yeah." He looked up, waiting to hear what she was going to say next. "You know," she continued, "I know that I can't "pretend" and maybe I can't cover my tracks as well as you, but in your little mission, could you stand some company? I, I'll try to stay out of the way and..." He placed his finger over her lips to silence her. "I thought you'd never ask." Her face shone with joy as she leapt into his arms. They walked out of the alley and onto the main street, both their hearts full of hope. "Do you want to get some cigarettes?" he asked as they passed a small drugstore. "Nah." She smiled. "I don't need them anymore." THE END :) :) Comments please!!!
